The five sheep have done a good job over the spring and summer and were taken off Sherwood Oaks Field on the 20th November. The purpose of the grazing is to reduce the fertility of the field which should discourage vigorous grass growth but will give a chance for nectar producing flowers to flourish. Next year we will be hosting 15 or so sheep who will graze the field hard. They will then be taken off site before the summer starts and it will be interesting to see which plants emerge. Hopefully there will be plenty of nectar producing flowers to attract butterflies and other insects. This year has been a poor one for butterflies so let's hope that they do better next year.
